Dark, damp, silent and monochromatic-green: wandering through this forest was a surreal experience for me after spending so much of my recent life in the Western Australian Goldfields. I had been hiking for much of the morning at nearby Dove Lake, and as I made my way back to the car I found this ocean of greenery. The most challenging aspect of the shot was locating a point of focus to photograph, and this dead pandanus fit the bill nicely.

The exposure for this shot was quite long (50 seconds) and I had left my wrist watch back at the camp site. I was forced to use the old fall-back of “one thousand, one, one thousand, two, one thousand, three ……”
