Karijini National Park was formerly known as the Hamersley Ranges NP. It's a beautiful part of Western Austalia - rugged and stunning at the same time. It's also quite dangerous if visitors don't take a lot of care with every action taken.
The week before we got there in April, 2004, a rescue worker tragically lost his life at Hancock Gorge trying to save a tourist who had fallen and broken her ankle. A flash flood swept his team away and he was found a few days later.
The week after we got back to Kalgoorlie, another person was killed after falling near Fortescue Falls.
If you do choose to visit this beautiful part of WA, please be careful, for your own sake and for the sake of the people who might be sent to get you out of trouble.
